Search Engine Optimisation (SEO):

So you want to rank 1st in google? Of course you do, we all do! We can't promise you that but getting listed is a good start!
You might have the best looking website on the WWW but it would like trying to find a needle in a haystack if your site isn't search engine optimised. So how??!

I'll be honest... its not easy and its not quick but if you bear the following information in mind when you are designing your site you could save yourself a lot of hassle in the long run. I've added some links to great SEO tools too... making your life that little bit easier.

On-Page-Optimisation

On page optimisation refers to the tweaking of your webpage, which can include keywords, meta tags and the like. Some say that on page optimisation can only account for 20% of search engine success... but at the end of the day its 20% closer to your page 1 ranking! The other 80% comes from off page optimisation but we will come to this later.
Keywords
Optimising your keywords is a fine art - over do it and search engines might regard it as spam/keyword stuffing but under do it and you risk losing valuable positioning.
Each page of your website should have 2 or 3 different keywords or phrases per page and these should be used generously throughout the page (within context) - aim for a keyword density of between 15%20% (total keyword count) and no more than 5% for any single keyword.
Its good practice to use this keywords in your page Title, in Headings, as alternative text (ALT) to images and as anchor text in images. For example the html for these may look like:

Keywords in Links
As previously mentioned its a good idea to embed your keywords into links. Take this site for example, we might use the following code
<A href="www.hostingindex.co.uk">Compare UK Hosting </a> On site it would look like this:Compare UK Hosting and the link would take you straight back to hostingindex.co.uk

Chosing appropriate keywords goes without saying... and we've made this a little bit easier for you by adding this great little tool. Just enter your keyword below, e.g. hosting and you'll be presented with a number of highly searched variations of that keyword. No only that but you can see how many people have searched for that keyword within the last month thanks to the people at SEO Book (clicking Suggest! will open the SEObook website in another page with your search results.)

Additionally its good pactice to include keywords in the domain name/page name
